Recently I got an email regarding the ongoing situation with the Big Three automakers where I was given numerous reasons why the Big Three should be bailed out. The email was from a person connected with GM as a retiree ( at least this is my understanding ). Obviously this person would be in favor of a bailout due to pension and other benefits. In the email there was information as to how GM is attempting to garner support for the bailout. Here is an excerpt:

GM Allies Rally In Support of Government Aid
To show Congress the depth of public support for the U.S. auto industry, GM has activated a third-party effort with some incredible advocates. Many of them are actively doing interviews and radio tours, while others have written letters to U.S. government officials in support of the loan.
Nearly 12,000 dealers and their employees have sent more than 43,000 e-mails to nearly every member of Congress. Also, almost 1,400 dealer calls were forwarded to legislators. Employee traffic has been strong with more than 25,000 calls going through. More than 113,000 consumers have sent nearly 385,000 e-mails to 536 legislators. Also, there have been almost 6,000 supplier calls. If you do that math, you’ll find that nearly one-half million contacts have been made with Congress on behalf of the industry.
Just to be fair I ran a check on the internet by typing in: Polls should automakers be bailed out?
You can see the search results on Google Here. Once there I started checking out the various polls that appeared at the various sites. After the second page I came to the conclusion that the general concensus was that the automakers Should Not be bailed out. The impression that I am getting is that those who want the bailout are obviously connected with the automakers in one way or another be it as employees, retirees, parts suppliers, dealerships, etc., etc. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the resident population of the United States, projected to 11/29/08 at 06:43 GMT (EST+5) is 305,767,422 Now, you compare that number with the nearly one-half million contacts that have been made with Congress on behalf of the industry ( according to GM’s claims ) and you begin to get a feeling for what the rest of the population is thinking. Obviously Main Street is not happy about it.
To check it out for myself I put my own poll here. Let us see what the readers say.
